Same thing has happened to me several times over the 12 years that I've owned my MX-7-180. The slip joint hardware at the header needs be loose enough to let the tailpipe slip slightly. That removes some of the vibration. The tailpipe should be able to move at the hangar strap to remove more of the vibration. The 4-cylinder engines vibrate more than the 6-cylinder engines.

exactly.... but my IO360 does run a bit rough and such on the ground but smooths out with not much vibration at higher RPM's ..I've been told it's the nature of the beast...I'm able to move the tail pipe easily so it can stand more vibration....

Just Got this installed by Tim's Air.This is a modified field approval of the Maule system to be STC'd soon. Even Jeremy came by to check it out and he gave it the big thumbs up!

Love the idea. Tim is a true hands on treasure, I am a great admirer of him and his work.
Will do the same on my MX7 & M7 to preclude this ever recurring cracking. As to the shrouds, I had in Alaska the outer Alu. covered with an Asbestos substitute insulation cloth shroud, held in place by the same clamps. Got even more vibration dampening and more heat into the cabin.
