12V heater/blanket

Since there's no denying that winter flights are usually frigid (even with the cabin heat on full), I've been thinking about plugging a 12V heater or a 12V heated blanket into the cigarette lighter. Has anyone done this with any success? Are there any reasons not to? Any idea how many amps/watts that socket is rated for?

I am a motorcyclist that rides year round in the Pacific Northwest and an expert in heated gear as a consequence.
I recommend a Gerbing heated jacket liner. Very thin and VERY warm. With no wind it would keep you warm down to below freezing in the cockpit.
You will need the controller and an adaptor for the lighter plug on the panel, or install a coax connector under or in the panel.
It draws 30 watts, so you'd have to figure if the system can handle that load or not, I don't know.
I have considered this myself.
I will use it in my convertible Corvette on cold sunny days also.

A friend of mine ( also a motorcycle rider ) uses a 12 volt heated vest in his Pacer on skis in the winter with no trouble and likes it. I am lucky to have excellent dual heaters on my injected 210. It is plenty comfortable at outside temps of 0* faren.

Was not always such a happy story, however.
A divorce cost me a house, and half my savings and retirement.
I kept the Maule.
Best money I ever spend cutting that tumor out.

Been there, done that, and had the t-shirt but lost it in the property settlement. It was expensive but well worth it. I haven't recovered financially but everything else is wayyyy better!!!
