New purchase of 1965 M4 210C
Have under contract in Colorado. Doing prebuy. New wt & balance 1314 empty, 7.52 EWCG, and 2300 gross. Mechanic says modified by SL #7 and #15 increases gross from 2100 to 2300. Didn’t know that! Anyone has sample wt & bal problem and charts? Does 7.52 EWCG seem ok? Haven’t seen manual yet.

I can't help with the charts, but I definitely suggest finding someone familiar with Maules for the prebuy. Make sure the oil is topped off in the oleos as part of the prebuy and if there is a puddle under the plane the next morning, the o-rings are shot in the oleos. Its a bit of a pain to fix, so figure that into your price. For sure pressure check the exhaust system as well, and look for signs of the exhaust wearing into the lower firewall and causing cracks.

Wow haven’t seen logs yet older than 90’s. Where you find that info so quickly? Per logs recovered, repainted and engine and prop overhauled in 97’. Then in 2003 ground looped into plowed field and nosed over with little damaged. Yes does have sealed struts. Having a A&P/IA do prepurchase that maintains a Maule just three serial numbers different. The other M4 owner flew it to mechanic and said it flew well. However if wrecked that many times does give me doubts. Like all info you and others may have. Thanks

Re: New purchase of 1965 M4 210C
Ok, backed out of that deal. Decided I wanted a better plane. Purchased a 2008 M7 235B ( my second M7 235B )with only 200 hours tt from a doctor friend. He purchased in 2011 with 100 hours and about quit flying. It was ground looped at only 37 hours by original owner and repaired my a major shop in Maine. Repairs appear to be excellent however believe not rigged correctly. With no right rudder trim ball is little left of center and if centered with left rudder left wing a little low with slight turn to left. Like to find a shop with experience in rigging a Maule in North Texas/Okla/Arkansas etc area. Anyone have a recommendation?

If you felt like bringing it all the way to Colorado, I could do it sometime after mid October. Hopefully you’ll find someone closer.

Re: New purchase of 1965 M4 210C
Sounds like springs that add tension to rudder cables in rear floor are a little out of syc for starters. Stretch the left one out a little and reclamp it. That should put the ball out the other side and let you pull the trim handle to center it. That of course if the spring is attached between the trim cable and rudder pedal. After you can center the ball in flight without hanging on a rudder it will be easier to figure if you need to wash a wing a little or jack a flap so you don't have to hold an aileron to fly straight.

Thanks barrier. Will check that next. Noticed standing at rear that with rudder even with vertical stabilizer that tail wheel was to left. Jacked up and found bolt that connects fork to spring was loose yet carter pin in place. Tighten and adjusted tension springs and now aligned with rudder. No time to fly yet as this could help both on ground and in air.

Re: New purchase of 1965 M4 210C
Big thanks to gbarrier. After making two 1500 mile trips in Maule and tired of holding left rudder, I finally stretched out the left spring that increases the pressure on left rudder cable. Plane now fly’s straight and true flying like it should with a little right rudder on climb and left on decent with proper rudder input in turns. Thanks again for your help. Les
