Late Model M-7 235B

Post by Utah-Jay »

Yes, the subject is fairly specific, but how often do late model (2015 and newer) come available?

We are looking at options at this time

Thanks

Not many. Two reasons.
1. Maule did not make very many per year.
2. People with more money than brains bought them and bent them all to shit. This happens with most aircraft.
LOL on #2

Well, I am on the lookout if anyone knows of one not all bent to Sh!t

Did Isaac sell his yet?

Maule is building him a new one, but I haven't seen any posts about it lately.

Here is a list of the details that he posted on BackcountryPilot awhile back.
MauleAir posted some near completion pictures on IG in September, so I'm not sure of status.

Re: FS: 2018 Maule M7-235 long wing

For Sale March 2020!
Late last fall we announced that we would be selling this amazing plane to purchase a 2020 version. We are now close enough we can have serious conversations about the sale of N574RB. Here are some details.
Built April 2018.
Has 1250 hrs currently
M7-235 special built long wing 33’8” instead of 32’11”
Special long flaps 126” instead of 115” (the last time the factory made an M7-235 with these wings was 1994)
IO-540W1A5 engine
JPI EDM930
Garmin G5
Trig radio (TY91)and Mode S transponder(TT22)
LED strob lights, landing light, nav lights
Odyssey SBS J16 battery mounted under passenger seat
Patroller observation windows front and back,
swing out windows in front
Light stainless door sills
MT prop (new at 1000hrs) Oil leaked from the hub into blade roots(very rare) so we installed a new prop while the other was inspected and repaired
New 35” tires and rims 11/7/19 @1,200hrs
Double puck brakes
Carbon fiber floor boards (covered always, look new)
Extended landing gear
Baby bushwheel
VGs
Gap seal on elevator
Will install all new interior panels before sale
New exhaust mufflers at 1,000 hrs

This is the best performing plane we have ever flown in this category. It is in very good shape. People consistently tell us it still looks and smells new. We are asking $300,000. New this plane would cost $360,000 to have built up to the same specs. It is ready to go on a part 135 certificate or fly part 91 for a lodge or hunting guide. I get twice the work done compared to what I accomplished with a super cub. This plane takes the place of two planes. You can have a Cessna 180 and a PA-18 or you can do it all with this one Maule. Feel free to email us at isaacbedingfield@gmail.com about purchasing this plane.

Isaac’s plane is not available, and while pricey it was near perfect

You mention late model 2015 or newer. Then you said looking for a long wing. The long wing M-7-235 was 33'8 wingspan from 1984/93 I had one. The m-7-235A shortens the flap and lengthens the aileron. The M-7-235B is the universal wing. From what I understand you have to special order the old wingspan (long wing) to get a new one built to order. The difference is not much to pass up any M-7-235. The older one's say 25 years old are the same as a new one and are probably a better build than todays. Seems like I see a lot of adds for guys wanting certain airplanes posted all over. I made a living buying and selling airplanes and never had to post a wanted add. You have to look where others are not.

I agree, most of the good deals on boats and likely planes never hit the market

I have this page http://maules.com/chronology.html which lists everything for the most part. By long wing I meant the 32’11”, but longer is always better.

This is a subject of frequent confusion. Here’s how I organize it in my mind:

There are short wing Maules (M-4, M-5);
Long wing Maules (M-6, M-7);
and Looong wing Maules (33’8” wing produced in relatively small numbers for some M-7s.

In general terms, all Maules do divide into the short-wing and long-wing camps, and the divide came when they started building the M-6, which had a significantly longer wing than the previous models. As far as I know, the 4s and 5s all had a 30’10” wing, whereas the 6s and 7s were generally 32’11”, with variations of a few inches.

Adding to the confusion is the fact that the early M-6 wing had a tapered wingtip. It was listed as 32’11”, but that depends on where you measure it. The later squared-off M-6 wing is, I believe, 32’11” front and rear.

Adding further is that I believe some versions of the M-7 (maybe the MX-7-180, maybe others?) had a shorter wing than other M-7s. Someone enlighten me on this.

So the difference between the short wing and the long wing is quite significant. The difference between the long wing and the looong wing is much smaller, but certainly noticeable to those operating at the very edge.

Anyway, I wondered about the exchange above, where someone mentioned having an “05” for sale, and the OP said “thanks, but I’m looking for a long wing”. I wonder if they read the “05” as meaning M-5, where it actually meant “2005 model year”, which of course had a long wing.

Could we agree on a new name for what I’m calling the looong wing, just to save the confusion?

Loooong Wing = Long Wing
Short Wing = Short Wing
Universal Wing = Newest Wing which happens to be in the middle.
