Can you tell if an MX7-235 is long or short wing by Serial #
I know of somebody thinking about selling his MX7-235 but he does not know what wing length he has. Can I tell via the serial number? It was made in 88.

Jeremy's site is showing it as a 30'10" wing.Float Pilot wrote:I know of somebody thinking about selling his MX7-235 but he does not know what wing length he has. Can I tell via the serial number? It was made in 88.

The MX7-235 never had the longer wing, there was six M8s built which were basically MX7-235 with longer wing and aluminium wide gear. The MX7-180A, B, C. and MXT7 have the longer wing.
The 30'10" wing of the MX7-235 and MX7-180 of the 1980s has the torque tube flaps and squared wingtips which give a bit more lifting surface than the 30'10" wings of M4 and M5.

Yes, the M5 droop tip wingspan is measured tip to tip, however the droop tips flare outward quit a bit at trailing edge from leading edge whereas the "squared" tip of the MX7 wingspan is similar at trailing edge to leading edge.
Most M5s I see are not getting the full flap deflection to 40* because of wear and poor rigging adjustment, whereas the torque tube flaps are usually getting the prescribed 48*.

VERY INTERESTING !!!
Now if I can only get the guy with the MX7 to answer my messages. This time of year, I need to be working up my training manual and doing the Annual/100hr.
Unfortunately the people who are thinking about selling are hunkered down for the winter and are not all that sure they really want to sell.
I keep running into pilots in their late70s who know they should sell their plane, but they just can't bring themselves to do it. Not to mention they think of the plane as being in the same condition it was in back 15 years ago.
