Hello all. First, I already ran a search and did not see anything directly answering what I am looking for.
On the early 7 series airplanes (pre universal wing, spring gear, not long wing 7) there seems to be very little information out there that I can find. I pulled the comparison sheet on MauleFlight and see its the same wing as the M5 with shorter ailerons and longer flaps. Flaps also go to 48 degrees. Also, still has oleo gear obviously.
Does anyone have any real world experience with them? How do they perform? How much do you give up with the shorter wing? Anyone know the actual years they were produced?

So in the progression of models, they had the M-4 with a short wing, then the M-5 with a short wing, then the M-6 with a long wing, then the M-7 back to a short wing again, and then later M-7 with another long wing??
I know there have been several slightly differing long wings, but I didn't realize that M-7s had gone back to the 4/5 short wing at first. Hard to see how that makes sense.

Ok all, I think i have posted the wing lengths on here a couple of times.
M7-235 1984 to 1993 has 33'8" wing with long flap and short aileron.
About late '80s early '90s a longer aileron was available and shorter flap and this became the M7-235A
1993 onward the M7 got the universal wing 32'11" span
The M7 never had the shorter wings.
The MX7-235 and 180 had 30'10" square tip wing from 1985 to 1993 when the MX7-235 was discontinued and MX7-180 (A) (C) (AC) got 32'11" wings.

I own one they perform great the shorter wing supposedly helps in cruise performance. On a typical flight I will cruise around 120kts at 50-65% power. With performance cruise 75% I have occasionally seen 140kts or more depending on the winds.
I frequently land and take off from an ~800ft strip and have done so at max gross with no issues.
During a typical landing with light to medium braking I use maybe 400ft before I'm at taxi speeds.

Is it basically a M5 wing with the taller/longer 7 fuse?
