Can any one tell me the difference between the M7 and M9 that results in the M9 having such a higher payload?

The major difference is that the M-9 wings are a beefed up version of the standard Universal wing. The spring gear is also slightly larger.

The main beef up is at the fwd and rear spar at the strut attach points. 2 reinforcements on each spar, root rib is substantially beefed up and the spar attach point reinforcements are substantially thicker. Also the fwd spar attach bolt is one size larger.

The M-7 line is available in any of the engines. 0-540 (B4B5), I0-540 (W1A5, V4A5). At this time the M-9 is only certified with the W1A5 engine.

Where's the Beef
Like Duane said.

When at the Maule Homecoming we got a chance to look at the M9 wing in construction as well as the M7 wing and the M9 is markedly more stout. Don't know what the weight difference is between M7 and M9 wing but can see where M9 would be much stronger.

Why didnt Maule certify the M9 with the 260 hp first?
Too many models I find in the line. Most cost Maule a fortune in certification.
Get some M9 certified with used allison 420 / 450s, they will sell.

They keep getting heavier and heavier. :(

It's like having a 2WD Jeep with plush carpet

You just can't improve what was already perfect!

The Maule was designed to be a STOL airplane, not a full IFR panel, auto-pilot, pad room quiet Cadillac that weighs 10,000 lbs!

MW- What sells is the only consideration! But what i think I hear you saying is that all of those add-ons should be options that are developed and supported by the company that builds the original. The thing that sets Maule apart from the crowd is the STOL concept. When the sights are moved from the target....the mark will be missed!

Sometimes people just do not understand the cost it takes to make these add-ons factory legal. When profits dwindle, production ceases!

If people want the best, they need to buy the basics and take it somewhere else for the upgrade.
