what is model for fixed pitch prop for io360 continental

Post by akholland »

tossing around the idea of looking for a fixed pitch prop for my io360 to keep the weight down. . i cant afford to keep buying constant speed props. . need something cheaper for bush flying. anyone know of a fixed pitch model number or composite that might work as a good climb prop?

There are many experimental prop builders that would build a prop for you specific needs.

Catto props !! Put one on Lanceair 235 o320 cllimbout went from 120K @ 1800FPM to 130K @ +2000FPM (vv only goes to 2000). Put one on a Jabru 140 LSA it was just like adding another cylinder or 2 ,I'am very impressed by the performance. I would put one on the Maule in a heartbeat ,but that pesky centerfield airplane thing  Experimental is looking better all the time.

I have not heard of anyone useing a fixed pitch prop on the Continental IO360 on a Maule.
You might try tracking down the Swift club as they use that engine but even if you find an apropriate prop, getting approval via FAA on your certified Maule is going to be a long row to hoe.

Still looking. I'll email catto and see what they have. 30 lb off the nose would be worth trying. Plus less chance of bent crank on prop strike!
