Chris, spreading the bad news you beat me by a few hours
What a bummer they had to cancel the show !
But I agree with the idea of a Maule meeting somewhen this season.
If our formation flying is not too close we should be safe from corona

...once on the ground we will use “old disinfectant from Scotland “ to kill the dreaded virus 8)

Well, you all are very welcome to come here and although we don’t actually use that stinky Scotch disinfectant stuff, we do keep a few bottles for visitors.

My next planned trip south was going to be the European mountain pilot gathering, which is scheduled for the end of May at Megève. Now I'm afraid there’s some uncertainty about even small events like that.

Out of interest, how many European Maule drivers have the EASA mountain rating, or might be interested in getting it?

Njacko, a definite YES on the interest to get a mountain rating.

Altiports are the next best thing to real off airport landings.
Is it possible to do the rating in English?

...disinfection ongoing while writing this 8)

I chose a JURA, since I once landed a Supercup on Juras west coast..Ah...sweet memories

Hi all, would like to join in Megeve, have no mountain training or rating , but my first tailwheel t/o and landing was in a Colorado’s mile high airport , although with a good distance to the Rocky Mountains.

Good morning all, I hope you and your airplanes are well and able to fly,

There’s a fly-in at Montmeilleur (ICAO LFKK) on 19 or 20 September, depending on weather. A very civilised affair in the French alps organised by the AFPM (French mountain pilots’ association) with picnic lunch in the castle garden.

Being France, there are always plenty of Jodel airplanes there, this year we hope to bring a couple of Maules and a Husky from SW Scotland. It would be nice to have more Maules...

From the airfield website https://www.montmeilleur.com/

“Montmeilleur boasts one of the finest mountain runways in France, but it is a mountain runway with a 10% slope, so beware, you may want a check-out before flying in. However, since it is a private airfield and not an “altisurface or altiport”, you do not need the French “Pilote de Montagne” license.

Altitude at the runway threshold is 2830 ft.

Enter the traffic pattern midfield at 4000 ft and proceed to a right hand downwind to the south of the airfield. Please avoid all villages and reduce power.

The airfield is 560 m by 15 m, with the 10% to 7% slope it is the equivalent of abt. 1000 m, so it is pretty long, no need to set down right on the threshold. You might want to aim for a landing point in the first third of the airfield. To smooth your rotation you might consider leaving some power with 1500 RPM on the prop. Be alert for some healthy downdrafts on short final.”

Njacko,
thanks for the heads up. I keep my fingers crossed that I can attend. Would love to see you guys there
My plane is still grounded in France. Work is done but Covid-19 prevents DARs from traveling 🤬😡

Zoller, that sounds a real bummer. Maybe the French can lend you a Jodel for the weekend? :)
