I'd be happy to give what advice I can but there is heaps of really good advice and experience on this site so you've come to the right place. I'm now an ex Maule pilot but have done plenty of hours in a Maule in New Zealand. I take it this is SLS you're looking at?

Yeah, I haven't flown in it but know the previous two owners before it went to the North Island. Use to share a hangar with it at Wigram.

Maybe it is one of the Maule M5-210s that Larry Larrivee flew across Pacific from California for the deer capture program in 70's.

Longest leg is Santa Barbara to Hawaii of 2150 miles.
Wingtanks plus a 50, a 60, a 45 and sometimes an extra 10 gal set of tanks.

If anyone ever needs a ferry trip like that done - call me. Really. Don't know why exactly but a trip like that is on my bucket list. And, I don't weigh much. (More useful load for fuel!).

Hi guys
I've now purchased the M5 210C I was looking at the US rego was N434X
and am about to start finishing my PPl after 35 hrs of time in a C152
I'd like to thank Kiwi for giving me the benefit of his knowledge, giving more confidence in being a first time used Maule purchaser
I've been soaking up as much of the wealth of knowledge on this site as I can
If anyone knows of its history in the US or as SLS in NZ that would be very interesting

She has a couple issues that I could use some help with, maybe they have already being covered in the forum but I can't seem to see exactly what I'm looking for
Primarily the razorback covering has a small slit low on the rear fuselage
The covering is in good condition and although the paint looks a bit shabby due to touch ups
The maintenance manual says that repairs should be done with razorback method as per instruction manual no 39-5 by Planters.inc
Question 1 , Does anyone know where to find a copy on line or have a copy ?
A temporary tape job isn't really what I'd like to do
Question 2 , The type of paint originally used ?
I'd like to try and freshen up some areas cover up the poor touch ups where I can the original paint doesn't have much in the way of cracks but reprinted areas have some minor cracking
Everything else has been well covered in the forum so far though I'm sure I'll have more queries in the future
May the power of the internet be with you
Cheers Dave

Welcome

Hey Dave, what is your email? I found an old magazine article with SLS I can forward on. Have you got it back up North?

Happy New Year,
Andy
