I just got back from an amazing first trip in my new to me Maule M5-235. I bought it in Anchorage and needed to get it home to CT. So I loaded up a bunch of gear and my budding professional photographer daughter and jumped on a jet to go get the new ride. We were limited on time so didn't get to explore nearly enough but we had weather to beat if I was to get the plane back before the snow flew. We did manage to see amazing views that many of you get to see all the time. Color us jealous. Here are a few of the better pictures from the trip. You can see more of them at

Those are some very nice photos. I assume your daughter took those. She has a very good eye.

Just on the way south from Alaska myself. Did Hoonah, AK to Lillooet, BC today. Just outran the weather also; big storm rolling into Prince William Sound as I was getting out.

Thank you. Yes she took a few thousand pictures of digital and 4 rolls of black and white film to use for a college photography project she is calling Wings and Wilderness. It was really hard to keep heading southeast with so many beautiful areas begging to be explored. She loved Alaska and the Rockies from the air. The Great Plains not so much where the photo rates dropped dramatically.

Yes it used to be at Birchwood as I tracked it down via Google Maps of all things trying to find the owner. I almost missed it because it had wing covers on in the picture.

I got half of the the fuselage polished today. It's cleaning up better than I hoped. At least the paint that's still there anyway.

Great pics, thanks for taking the time to share them.

I'd love to see some pics from CT and New England if you have any, I lieved there for a few years when I was at Yale.

Have not been back since. I get hives if I travel east of the Continental Divide.

You'll have to bring your Maule back to Alaska for a visit!

Peak foliage season here is a week or two away. We hope to make use of the patrol/observer package and get some great shots if I can work around my recurrent training schedule.

I would love to fly back up and explore more of Alaska someday.

Man what a nice trip, even though you had to squeeze it into 4 days. Any father who has a daughter dreams of taking a trip like that........You two will remember that vividly for your whole life, and you have the GREAT photographic images to enjoy over and over. Sounds like the Maule lived up to its expectation.

Wow that guy was amazing. What a tragic loss. Thanks for sharing. I remember reading about him at one point but never saw his photography.

Planning a Moose hunting trip with a friend of mine who lives in Anchorage next year. Fly the Maule in the summer up and back out after the hunt. SE Michigan to Anchorage and Fairbanks area. hopefully taking some days to go explore some of Alaska's beauty along the way.

Nice Pictures and great that your Daughter was able and wanted to do the trip with you.
