I can check my herd in 5 minutes, it takes 2-3 hours of bouncing in a pickup to do the same. What a way to start the day!

the pasture is 6 miles away, and 5 miles wide. I don't think a drone would have the range for that.

Shockingly that is a very doable distance for drones. Just depends on what kind and size you went for. I have a fixed wing that can fly for over an hour at 35-45 mph and bring back 4K stabilized video. Property between you and pastures would be a concern though.

But as said above it is not nearly as fun.
