Ad hoc PNW meetup at Copalis beach

Post by Christine »

It began with the thread on maulepilots.org http://maulepilots.org/forums/viewtopic ... 8896#38896:
Rezrider and Danws were heading to the PNW. They arranged with TomD to fly to Copalis beach S16, the only official landing at the west coast site right on the beach, as far as I know.
Thanks to Tom, who told me about the tentative plans and my schedule which had me off work and home in Yelm (06WN), just 68nm away from Copalis beach, I grabbed my friend Heidi, who is always up to come flying with me and we joined the meeting. maulem5210c who is based only a few airports further north from 06WN found the thread as well and just in time to join us with his 15yr old son who has already 20hrs of flying time and is waiting eagerly for his 16th birthday to solo.
So, we ended up with 5 Maules on the beach amongst beach walker with their dogs, seagulls and a beach turned runway, a place where airplanes, pilots and non-pilots happily coexist.
We didn't bring frisbees, BBQs but met, chitchatted and left in time to get everyone of us back home before the tide stole our runway back and the sun set.
Thank you all who flew in, it was fun to meet with all of you.

Not far for me....
