Maule fun in Alaska

Post by tcalaska »

Recently, I had the chance to go moose hunting in Alaska with some friends. We landed on a frozen meadow near the Yukon river. My moose pack was about 40 yards to my airplane. Frozen meadows are like concrete. Enjoy the pics.

Nice pics, looks like a beautiful day.

How far away from civilization were you? I would worry about the plane not starting from the cold and freezing out there....

What cold and freezing? Notice there was no snow? It was 49 here today!!!

Nice pics! What part of the state were you in?

The tempatures were high enough that I didn't need to preheat. Just in case I carry a Coleman sportster dual fuel stove with a dryer vent adapter to preheat my plane. This setup cost me about $70 instead of 5-600 for a Northern Companion. A coffee can works good as a windbreak. I was in the Lower Yukon. We started hunting at 8:30am and by 10-11 we had 3 moose down. 4 hunters and 3 moose were fine odds for us.
