Every time I've been there it looks like that. It's just on the east side of the mountains, so in the drier air. In the winter, however, it's known for getting lots and lots of snow. It's in the upper Methow valley, just on the east side of Washington pass. An easy flight for you; go check it out once the strip opens in the spring!
