The Anual Hunting Thread

Post by YELLOWMAULE »

No one has thrown anything this way yet so I thought I'd break the ice. I know several of you have had a successful year so let's see 'em!
I had the pleasure of hunting with Young Squire again this year. Good thing too, he packed most of it out. Once he's grown and gone, I'm going to reduce my hunts to Bunnies and Parky Squirells!
This hunt lasted all of 20 minutes. I had dropped YS off with a friend two nights before and they chased this guy for the day calling and caling and couldn't get any response. In fact, he had two Cows and looked completely spent. Head hanging and moping around. As YS and I left camp in the morning, we'd walked about a 1/2 mile when we'd heard a very faint grunt. I'd called a couple times and while he responded, it was distant and seemed to have little interest. We decided to mix it up a bit and I would throw a Cow call towards him and YS would grunt in the opposite direction. We did that twice. He came in almost at a dead run. The long and the short of it is that he was shot at about 10 yards and only 7 yards from YS. His rack is modest but his body was very large. His hind qtrs. were ~140#.
There is nothing as satisfying as hunting with your boy.

Great pics, great day. Good use of a Maule!

Young Squire looks even bigger and stonger since last season. Growing fast!

We don't have moose and we don't have to fly out but there is nothing better than hunting with the heir to the mortgage. Just white tail on the farm but the time spent together is priceless.

Nice job Kurt, you and YS did good ! Wow, a 10 yard shot ? A little to close for comfort against something that big. Watch out for the powder burns in the meat. Next time one gets that close , trip em with the barrel and thump em on the head with a stump. Lead is getting expensine you know !!!!

Another nice job Ryan, good looking animal. We've all had a good year up here and full freezers are the prize.
Yes Dan, it was a little close and a lot of exciting.
Maybe we should trade some hunts with our South African friends. That should mix it up a little!
I could fit that rack in the Peril if I allow it to be come a convertible....

Hunted whitetail, mule, moose caribou in USA and Newfoundland, we have lots of hunting in South Africa, you are very welcome
