I piloted Monte's Bonanza and him into JC today.
I've been there with the Maule a few times and have become semi-proficient with the approach and terrain. I have seen several non-bushplanes there like Mooneys, Bonanzas, RV10's, and a Cirrus so I knew it could be done.
The Beech did fine, and I could feel that the old bird enjoyed rolling out on the cool smooth grass.
We did not stay long as we planned to have lunch in McCall and did not want it to get even hotter at JC.
We used up more than half the runway taking off, and initial climb was weak, but once she accelerated and I got the gear up we were gone baby gone.
Monte has had little experience in the backcountry, a few trips in the Cascades with me the Maule and me. This was the first for him and the Beech, and his eyes were wide open, to say the least. A good time was had by all.
