For those of us that enjoy the finer things in life:

Beautiful pics! Looks wonderful. Looks like a spot to land a Spitfire or a Hurricane.

Approximately 1200ft, with a pronounced slope. Uphill landing, downhill take-off - might be a challenge for a Spitfire or Hurricane  And I would prefer a Lysander anyway - the grand-daddy of bush flying :D

A capstan winch. Interesting. I have issues with being that close to a load that heavy. I guess with that type of winch and a manila rope, you are not likely to be able to generate the load you can on a cable/drum winch though.
You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both!

Two or three wraps easy to handle.
Just release pull and it slips , but 4 wraps can overlap and bind.
It drives off the starter crank handle dog on front of crankshaft.
Operator stands to the side a bit.
I used one in my first attempt to traverse the infamous Darien Gap

Am I the only Maule owner who owns a Jeep instead of a Land Rover?

Jeep and F250 here. Wife has been wanting a land rover but so far it hasn't happened.
I can't remember if I fired six shots, or only five.....

Ha Ha. No you are not the only one with a jeep. Currently the wife drives a Grand Cherokee. Have had a Wrangler and a Grand Wagoneer. I still use a 1949 Willy's jeep pick up to run errands.

In 1975 when I was searching to see what airplane to buy, a magazine did a story on the upcoming M5-235.
The story was summed up with the last paragraph
"The type of person who would buy and use a Maule, is he who would get a Land Rover or Boston Whaler"

Well, I guess I'm really the odd man out (not the first time). But my van has been places no other 2WD will go!
