Monterey Peninsula

Post by n2020u »

Hey everyone,

A friend recently opened a new flight school at Monterey Peninsula airport. It specializes in tailwheel training/ stick & rudder flying. They had a little get- together and I decided to fly in! I put the half-pants/spats/panties back on the Maule and cruised on over. I took a picture of "Ben" sitting on the ramp with the bay in the background (showing off that healthy propeller).

Looking sharp !
How are your CHT and Oil temps in the 100F wx we've been getting ?
I ask because I notice an absence of cooling lip at air egress.
Much sleeker without, but most 220's need them to stay cool.

Thanks Jeremy! They've been surprisingly cool despite the heat. Oil ten stabilizes around 210 in the climb and all CHT's are under 390 in the climb as well. This is the only one I've seen this far without the lip.

Great pic.

Monterey was a favorite destination for me back when I lived in the Bay Area. I miss California greatly.

Totally agree with ya! It's scary to see a pavement loving Maule ;) I will be flying up to Monument Valley next month before I start my last semester of college.

Do you ever visit CA? We sure are spoiled down here with the weather.

Believe it or not I hardly ever visit California. Even after eight years I'm still homesick. To be fair, the Pacific Northwest is just as beautiful, but the weather is a variable. I live in the desert. It's either hot and dry or cold and dry. Plus or minus wind. My favorite home in California was Sonora/Columbia. O22.

Monument Valley is a beautiful area. Should be some cool flying. Post pics!
You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both!

Well, didn't make it to Monument Valley unfortunately

However, I DID get to fly a Cessna 140 coast to coast! 35 hrs and six days. Took my dad with me. Had a blast!

The day after I got back, I took the Strata Rocket to Byron for gas. Shot a bunch of landings back at RHV for currency purposes. In the past three months I've put over 50 hours on the bird. (My dad has put 80 hours on it as well).

Last flight before going back to Sacramento was in the L-19. It's been a few months, so I took my Aunt Dora; she was my very first passenger EVER; for an airplane ride to South County in Morgan Hill, CA. Love that airplane!

I've officially started my first engineering job at the Folsom Department of Water Resources so the flying will only be on weekends!

Take Care,
