Some local mountain flying-Kern Valley, CA

Post by n2020u »

Hello fellow Maule drivers!

It's been a while since I've posted a Maule adventure on the site. I've been busy with my last semester at Sacramento State and with my family's "new" Cessna 120.

Anyways, a local taildragger flight school at my home airport was having a fly-out to Kern Valley, CA; near the shores lake Isabella. So I decided to play cargo plane and fly the supplies down for them; they were all flying the school's Citabrias.

Spent the night and had a great time with my friends. Woke up slightly before 6AM and decided to wake everyone up with the 82" Mac and practice my canyon flying before the heat showed up.

Here's the pics, hope you guys enjoy them:

1. Here's "Ben" sitting on the ramp at Kern slightly before sunset. What a pretty area. https://www.flickr.com/photos/garrettgr ... 031138579/

2. Over Lake Isabella

3. Approach to Kern Valley after Dawn Patrol

4. It's nice to have somewhere mountainous within 2hrs flying distance from San Jose. Cruising up the canyon towards Lake Success.

5. Another shot of the Canyon. The surrounding mountains range from 8k to 9k in height, but the valley elevation is around 3,000ft.

Take Care everyone,

Great pics. I have not been there for a while but great place. Lake Isabella is very warm and nice for summer swimming. Camping on the field used to be great.

Nice motorcycling there too.

Thanks! Yeah it sure was a lot of fun. I love that my allergies don't bother me in the desert, either.

Apparently no one out there has seen a Maule with the round wing tips. Everyone kept asking me if I was sure that it WASN'T a pacer lol.
