I was just flying to Anacortes for "cheap" avgas. They were selling it for $5.81/gallon rather than the $7.15/gallon at my home field. This flight does take me over the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, and their Class C airspace. I called the controllers for permission to transit their airspace and was told to maintain VFR at, or above 3,500. There was strong emphasis on the controllers voice when he cautioned me to not drop below 3,500' MSL and read me the altimeter again. Seconds later, these 2 bad boys zipped under me.
Then, on the way back to my home base, this amazing machine was being escorted back to its base:
Finally, the USS Nimitz was loading armament at the Naval Magazine on Indian Island, just 5 nm from home:
Any one of these encounters is rare, but to have all 3 on one flight was amazing. Maybe the Navy knew my birthday was today...
