In my experience, the pilot population in general tends to be right of center. Speaking for myself, I am well to the left of Barack Obama; sort of in Bernie Sanders or Barbara Boxer territory.

you can't be any more left than Opey Dopey. and Boxer is an idiot... :)

I didn't think a Maule would even start for a "Left of Center Owner"............
In my POH on the first page it states: If you even think of being a "Lefty", back away from the airplane very slowly, then turn and run as fast as you can into the middle of a spinning prop!

I refuse to be labeled "left" or "right". Like most people, I live somewhere in the middle. It really depends on the topic of discussion whether I fall on one side of the line or the other. All these labels accomplish is to divide us.

Our government is so polarized as to be nearly useless and they are becoming more so every election. Both sides seem to think they are not extreme enough when what they need to do is pull their collective heads out of their butts and take a look around at the real world once in a while.

In reality, neither side has represented me in a very long time and both sides embarrass me no end. It is my honest opinion the "party system" has served its purpose and need to go away. They have become a self centered, self serving big business and have not served the real citizens of this country in many, many years. All these "parties" do is label and divide us at a time when we should be coming together to solve our problems.

It is a sad situation when people talk about voting for the lesser of 2 evils. I am not sure if I can tell the difference anymore.

I really appreciate crbnunit's comments; they represent many of my own thoughts on the subject. I do label myself left, largely because neither party represents me, and those who do are to the left of both of them. That sad, I think that one of the most problematic dynamics in modern U.S. politics is the tendency to abuse and ridicule those with whom we disagree. Calling someone who has different ideas from us an "idiot" prevents us from having a reasonable conversation about our viewpoints, why we have them, and how we might come together to reconcile our differences, or at least come to reasonable compromises to live well together to our mutual benefit. I might even dare to suggest that if we truly opened our minds and listened, we might learn something from each other. This dismissing or demonizing of others is what leads to the paralyzing polarization we have today. While we all sit in our respective corners and glare at each other, getting nothing done, much of the rest of the developed world is leaving us in the dust. If it keeps up, we will soon be united by our second or third-class economic and political status in the world. And yes, the left is as bad at all this as the right is.

Ok, rant over; back to airplane talk ;)

I'm personal friends with a congressman who shall go un named on this forum but he knows Boxer and Feinstein well and deals with them on a daily basis... In my conversations with him about the above the word Idiot is mild compared to what he thinks of either of them.. they don't live in reality and are good representatives of how congress has failed us in the past...Both of them have as their main objective to be re elected....

I rarely, rarely make any kind of a political statement. I avoid political discussions at all costs. However. I lean towards a Libertarian stance on many things.
1) Do whatever you want to do as long as you don't hurt someone, don't tell me what to do, how to act or what I cannot do.
2) Be accountable and responsible for your actions.
3) The Constitution is not a living document. Don't f**k with it. There was much more thought put into it than there seems to be these days and the boys that wrote it had the scar tissue to justify what they said.
4) I don't care who you sleep with, who you pray to or whose bumper sticker you display. Don't jam it down my throat as an absolute or we'll have issues. You do what you want to do and when your time is up, you'll have to square with your Maker. It's not my job to tell you how wrong you are. See # 2.
5) BALANCE THE BOOKS!
6) Leave a clean camp. I tell my kids to not leave a trail. Goes for everyone.
7) Rewrite the tax code. Any 501 (c)3 that instigates a lawsuit looses that tax free privilege. Immediately. They can defend themselves but not initiate it.
8) Term limits and Golden Parachute Retirement: Oh Baby don't get me started....

In my travels, I can find few examples of people who involve themselves in politics for reasons other than personal gain and self promotion. Can't stand most of them. I've told my kids from the time they could talk that there a lot rich people, smart people but never enough good people. Look around you and make the place better than when you arrived.
We have a sterling example of what socialism will do to America here in AK. We have turned the Natives into pets. They want for nothing, they need nothing, Big Brother will provide. The outcome? In the last two generations, we have the highest suicide rate, the highest rape rate and the lowest production of any demographic. Take the need to be productive away from a man and you've reduced him to a number with no sense of purpose. These are proud, independent people. We've stripped them of self reliance and therefore pride. Look at the inner cities, see the similarities? There is failure in life. Deal with it. We are not promised to succeed. We will fail unless we make an effort. That's what sets us apart. We are practicing reverse evolution and it will fail. Nature culls the weak and sick. Brutal but true. To go against that is doomed. We cannot legislate success. We cannot legislate safety. We as pilots take chances and we accept the outcome whatever it is. Because we are PIC, we accept that responsibility, perhaps the rest of society should too.
All right, I'm going to go down to the fire at the lake, enjoy a cigar and a glass of Gin and be done with stewing on this. No matter the outcome, I will take responsibility for the end result.
Cheers!
BTW, I always have an open house so if any of you are in the area, you're more than welcome to stop in.

Well put, Kurt... and from my dealings with you I know you actually LIVE your philosophy. You are intelligent and you are GOOD. You (and other good people like you) should be governing as leaders. But of course, we don't elect leaders, do we? We elect law makers, which explains why we have an explosion of laws, rules, and regs.

When my kids were smaller they always wanted a new toy, or doll, or whatever. They already had a toy box full of stuff they played with... so I instituted a simple reality... They could get a NEW toy only if they chose to give up TWO old toys in trade for it. Sometimes they went ahead and got something new IF THEY REALLY WANTED IT. Most of the time they considered long and hard what they would lose and stuck with the status quo. But it was their decision and they knew they MIGHT regret caving in to rash decisions.

Kept the clutter down and this is what I think we should do with any new laws... or lawyers for that matter. Eventually we would prune back to the reasonable stuff.

BTW, I am an Anarchist... and trying to be a "GOODER" person tomorrow than I am today.

FWIW, from this MAULE site I've had direct dealings with Kurt, Jeff, Mike, (perhaps others).... all GOOD persons. Kurt, your my role model :D Jeff, thanks for the SPOT. Mike thanks for the flap help. GOOD people are here.

It sounds like I'm probably in Yellow Maule's Party. I am fiscally very conservative and socially very moderate. (I can't bring my self to use the word liberal) I believe in public decorum. I don't care what you are doing or who you are doing it with as long as you don't hurt anyone and you are responsible for what you do. I believe in 100 % freedom and 100 % responsibility for your actions. You should not get one without the other. I don't think that the government should run anything except a social net for the aged, the truly infirmed and the military. Lawyers should be banned from politics and holding political office. The ones who chase ambulances should be dealt with in such a way that they have to ride in them. I believe that none of us are all that rare or special, we are a glut on the planet. If you can't behave and afford your fellow man common decency, if you choose to be a botheration to the rest of us as a habitual thief, or criminal, then it's time for you to go By By, permanently. We should not warehouse the defects among us.
