Current Insurance Quotes

Post by crhannay »

Please share any recent insurance quotes for your Maule. Please give details including name of insurance company not the broker, ie Avemco, Global, AIG, etc.

I just got a quote from Avemco for $3,568 with a hull value of 160K.

Old republic $2,535.

I only have about 120hrs TW and almost 100 in the M-5 235
the insurance came down $1,000 from last year when I had 0 Maule time, but I also did not keep another person listed on the policy that was last year. If I remember correctly $550 of that $1,000 was just not adding the other listed back on.
No great story started with a good idea...

Somewhere around $1600 for $120,000 hull value and $100K/$300K liability from AIG. The hull value drives the cost up a lot more than the liability. I have around 1700 hrs in my Maule so that tends to drive down the premium. Instrument rating drives it down more.

Andy, do you go through AOPA for your insurance with AIG? I have 23,00 hours and an ATP but only 55 hours in my Maule.

I Pay $2,170.00/ year . US Specialty Insurance, $130,000 Hull Value, $1,000,000 each occurrence,$100,000 each passenger, $5,000 each person, $250 deductible not in motion, $2,500 deductible in motion. Maule M6-235
1500 total hrs in Maules, 600hrs of that in the tail wheel variety, no instrument rating. The rate increased about $200 from last year, I was told that's across the board.

I go through CS&A insurance in Franklin, TN. We used to have a Maule owner who was one of their agents and he handled my insurance. He left a while ago but before he went he was able to get my hull value increased due to the extensive rebuild by Maule Flight in 2010 and all of the modifications. I've left it at $120,000 since it's much closer to what it would actually cost for me to replace it, although I could lower the premium if I lowered the hull value.

Time in the airplane (and lack of claims) is probably the biggest factor in driving the premium down. If I remember right, there was a significant decrease in the premium once I went over 500 hours in the airplane. I think there was another decrease when I went over 1000 hours in it.

I've thought of going directly to AIG to avoid the broker fee but I'm not sure if they will issue a policy like that. Does anyone know?

Looks like you might be able to go directly to AIG. Here is a link to the application.

I did get intouch with AIG and you do have to go through a broker.

I guess you can go directly to AVEMCO, but I am not sure they are all that competitive.
