2007 M4 180V, $110k hull value, in July when I bought it I was 850 PIC, 25 hours tailwheel with endorsement, instrument, commercial. Avemco direct quoted $6000, AOPA Assured Partners came in at $4400 with 10 hours. My friend with 40 years experience tailwheel experience uses Northstar Aviation Insurance in ND 701-235-2041.

Thanks for the Ladd Gardner information (I think both Andy and Smokeyray mentioned). We've been with Duncan for the past few years, they've been great, but Ladd Gardner came in with a better quote for essentially the same coverage through Accel. I think the deductible is a bit higher but that's it.

Plane:
1986 M5 180C
$80k hull

Pilot:
Total Hours: 348.9
Tailwheel: 254.5
Total Hours last 12mo: 70.7
Total Hours make/model: 228.8

Total premium: $2490

I recently did a Maule Aircraft Insurance Guide for 2022, estimating rates for each type of operation and actual quotes we have been providing Maule clients. So far in 2022 we have seen rates come down, as compared to 2021.

An easy way to estimate or visualize the premium for a Maule is a rate between 1% and 5%.
  • 1% for pilots with a Private Instrument rating and over 500 Total Time
  • 2% for pilots with just a Private Pilot License and over 100 Total Time
  • 3% for Student Pilots working on a Private Pilot License
  • 4% for Student Pilots with a low hull value Maule like $900,000 value
  • 5% is the pilot has previous claims within the past 5 years
Hope this helps!

Well, mine is definitely low hull value if the cutoff is $900,000! ;-)

Old Republic - $1,850 year 130k hull zero deductible in flight or stationary. That was first year with "0" Maule time. Agent said 25 hours in type would likely lower cost on renewal. '94 MT7-235 Comm / Multi / Inst. 600 TT.

Just renewed with AIG. I am in New York, so that limits my options a bit. 300 Maule, 375 Tailwheel. 1600 TT. $2100 for the year for $85K hull.

Travers just quoted me 1300 for my m5-210c, 50k hull. 2500 in motion deductible.

Atp, 100 in type, 500 tail wheel, 10k tt.

They sent me a quote a week ago for 2100 with the only difference being no deductible. Whoever this underwriter is, God bless.

its that time of year again

Current 2023 quote; $1M smooth 0 deductible through BWI & Global insurance

MX-7-180C
Hull $80,000
2700 hrs TT
1000 TW
600 make/model

premium: $1934/yr

thats with AOPA and EAA discount.

Didn't go down hardly at all from last year despite the fact that I got my ATP, PIC type in a jet, 60 more hrs in make/model in the last 12/mo

Anyone seeing a reduction from last year or less than that for a premium?

Casey I can’t help but notice you list a $0 deductible and it seems you’ve got a fairly reasonable tall wheel rate. Which begs the question wonder how much it could go down with a reasonable deductible $2,000/$3,000 ?

Mine has stayed the same for the last couple of years with AIG. I'm 76 so that's probably a factor in keeping the premium up. From what others have said I'm happy that they still want to insure me at that age. I could reduce the premium by lowering the hull value and raising the deductible from $0 but I'm reluctant to do so. It took some effort in 2012 to convince AIG to accept the $120K hull value based on Maule Flight rebuilding the airplane in 2010. It would cost me close to $200K to buy a new MX-7-180B configured like my airplane. The broker adds about $300 fee to the annual premium but there's no other way to get to AIG. I've been with them for about 20 years.

1986 MX-7-180
Hull $120,000
Deductible $0
2936 hrs TT
2401 TW
1779 make/model
Commercial Pilot ASEL/ASES/Instrument/Multi-Engine/Rotorcraft-Helicopter
Annual premium $2,900

1982 M6-235. I’ve used Stephanie Dennis of Gallagher Aviation for quite a few years now and she’s always had the best rate for me on both the Maule and a Husky Amphib.
Hull $130,000
Deductible $250 not in motion $2,500 in motion
2400hrs TT
1700TW
1600 make/model
ASEL/ASES Pvt Pilot
Annual premium $3,280

Hello Morgan, long time no see, hope all is well.

I had the same thoughts, but Global will only write a ZERO deductible policy.
I had the broker check with another ins company and adding an $8000 deductible only dropped the premium by $300/yr.
