Brand new Maule Pilot!!!

Post by LCDRLES »

My daughter, Electra Lucille Bullard soloed her Maule M5 180C, N5654B, today at 16 years of age and 34 hours dual instruction. It’s the only airplane she has ever flown. Her CFI, Jef Hubbell has done a wonderful job with her primary instruction.
What a wonderful airplane.
Thanks, B.D.!!

Yes, she is getting a real West Texas education in crosswinds. She loves the Maule, though.
I took her up in a 182 the other day and let her land it. She said it was “boringâ€￾. I may have created a monster!

Congratulations to Electra! It's impressive that her first solo was in a tailwheel Maule.

My daughter, Christine, soloed in a 152 when she was 16 but never went on to get her Private Pilot certificate. 23 years later in 2018 she got back into flying and completed an intensive 14 day course in the Sacramento area to finish up. Her check ride is scheduled next month. She decided to polish off the rusty skills in a 172 before we went to New Zealand to fly around the South Island in a couple of 172s. That was an absolutely awesome trip with Flyinn 24-Oct through 31-Oct. I highly recommend it, especially for pilots who have never spent much time in the mountains.

This coming June she and I are planning to fly the Maule (MX-7-180) to Alaska. Our significant others have no desire to spend all that time in a small aircraft so they will fly commercially and meet us in Anchorage. I plan to teach Christine to fly the Maule during that trip. Someday when I'm too old to do this stuff (I'd never be able to get a walker into the Maule), the Maule will be her airplane. I know it will outlast me.
