nose gear strut rebuild

Post by cj8vet »

looks like it might be time for a nose gear re-build, anybody know if the O rings/seals are maule only parts or does maule have a Kit to order? other sources? (NAPA :-))
Going in for annual in october and I am trying to be proactive to minimize down time.
Thanks
Mark

Mark, We have a rebuild kit that comes with the O-ring, quad seal, back-up ring and wiper seal. I'd be careful with auto parts O-rings as they may not be tolerant to the 5606 hydro oil.

After you fix it, I'd suggest a 3.75" sleeve/snubber of radiator hose which will prevent the bottoming load on the oil after nitrogen is compressed, plus it protects the strut from rock chipping, and gives advantages to shorter landangs

I've been using the rubber hose trick for years, but I wonder is this putting me at risk for trapping water and getting corrosion on the strut?

So on the rubber hose is it band clamped on, ziptied or just slid on the strut?
