New airplane - Maule M8-235

I am new to this forum, since for the first time in my 40 year flying carrer, I have purchased a Maule.

After about five years of looking for the right backcountry steed for me, I have decided and taken the plunge! I just bought a 1994 Maule M8-235!! I haven't taken possession of it yet, but it will be this week and I can't wait.

My decision wasn't easy. It was between a Super Cub, a Maule and a Cessna 180/185. I know that these are three different airplanes, and all awesome backcountry air steeds, do choosing the Maule doesn't mean that I dislike any of the other two. The decision was based on two factors: utility (my mission) and price.

Other than the fact that I had a beautiful M8 hangared three hangars from mine, the Maule seemed to satisfy my needs. I needed more space, speed and range than the SC, and I didn't need the price tag, payload, and cost of parts of the Cessnas.

I haven't figured out how to post pictures from my iPad (can anyone help?). Later I'll post what I'm going to do to it.

Congratulations on the Maule purchase.

Hopefully you will get as much fun out of yours as I get out of mine.

I fly out of West Texas and would be interested in a Trip Report on your flights to and from Texas. I'm sure everybody else would like to see one also. 8)

I will wtxdragger, I'm glad to know other pilots in Tx with whom I can fly with when I'm there.

I for one cannot criticize any delay in uploading pictures. I have been having problems with my picture account, and have not loaded pictures for quite a time. Anyway, look forward to it.

Thanks guys! I can't wait to have it in my possession. As to mods, I'm going to install VGs, bigger tires (probably Alaska 26"), and a Garmin 430 that I bought used from a friend that was upgrading his panel to all glass. But what I need to do, more than anything else, is fly the hell out of it. I need to go up and practice those xwind landings I read about (jaja!). Hope my Stearman experience will help! If not, well, it will be a learning experience!!

If you can handle a stearman, the maule will be a breeze, but have no illusions, she can be a handful in a crosswind

This is my xwind instructor. I don't consider myself a great Stearman pilot, but after several hundred hours in it and two ground loops, we have come to an understanding: I won't take him out and play when there is a strong xwind at my airport, and he won't bite me!! Still, I pray every time we go flying! :? [/img]
