OK Dick Tracey,
The answer is in the picture with the sea plane. Be a real detective and tell me the name of the lake.

That blurry N# appears to be N5661J which is registered in Keaau Hawaii. If this is the correct N# then that does not help us out any.

Icefall Lake...on the south side of TRACY Arm...about 60 miles SE of Juneau.

Still not sure what a Hawaii registered aircraft has to do with the location.

I would like a 6 pack T-6 Red Ale please... http://www.warbirdbrewing.com/warbird_b ... d_beer.htm

Crash

Post by chetharris »

That was a tragedy. It got quite a bit of media time here in Anchorage.

Was it Johnstone Lake out side of Seaward? If not do I get one more guess?

Did you land in the grass? on the beach. How about some details of your visit.
Chet

Ar first I thought it looked like Montague. Certain it was Alaska.

Chet-

I thought it was up that direction as well, but the DICK TRACEY in bold letters led me down towards Tracy Arm...

I must be overthinking this little riddle.

A lot of Coast

Post by chetharris »

There must be quite a few spots that look like that. As you well know there is a great deal of coast line in Alaska.

I am most interested in hearing about some of the places you landed during your Alaskan adventure.

Chet-

Congrats on the win.

Now...WHAT THE HECK DOES DICK TRACEY AND A HAWAIIAN N# REGISTRATION HAVE TO DO WITH THIS LOCATION?

Although this aircraft was involved in a tragedy, I thought it was the only way to level the playing field. The answer was in the N# and you did not need to be from the north west to figure this one out.
The NTSB report would name the lake.
Dick Tracey is one whom I thought we would all understand as a detective that would leave no stone unturned. Making us think of ALL the possible information that could be obtained from an N#.
Johnston Lake will be remembered by both my daughter and I forever.
The Beaver in the background was piloted by an older man and he was very helpful in our landing in the thick grass. The lead plane that lead us out said we should not try to land as it was only for super cubs??
The beach side was a little rough and we had a lot of weight on board, so I followed the old mans advice and landed on the lake side. I must add that when you have your little princess aboard you don't take chances. Kristiin caught her first fish at this location and later fished in the 49th Silver Salmmon Derby in Seward.

Towards the Sea.

Post by chetharris »

Although I know Seward lies near the sea in Ressurection Bay, I have know idea how the extra "a" crept in. I do not even know if a Seaward exists. It should.

Jeremy,
Just to show I am a fair sport, if not a great speller, let me buy you a beer the next time you come to town.

210tc,
Land on the lake side. I will try to remember that. Did your daughter catch a silver out there at Johnstone. Did you fish the surf or the lake.

Chet
