I NEED INSURANCE

Post by 210TC »

Sorry, but I forgot who on this site was in the insurance biz.
Please send me an email if you sell insurance and tell me a little bit about yourself.

I need insurance on three planes over the next month.

I am an aviation insurance specialist for CS&A Aviation Insurance Company and a Maule pilot as well. Our website is www.aviationinsurance.com

There are a few other threads that you can read for more info about myself and my insurance / tailwheel background...

Insurance discussion - http://maulepilots.org/forums/viewtopic ... 72&start=0

Magazine article - http://maulepilots.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=163

Give me a shout and I will help you out. I will be back in the office Monday morning and my direct line is (615)435-8294 or you can give me a shout on my cell phone at (615) 717-7730. I will be on a road trip today (WX is too bad to fly) so my cell phone will be free most of the day.

How does a claim effect future insurability & cost?

Post by Aerobatix »

Hi all,

I am a new pilot and Maule owner. I have about 250 hours and little over 100 in the Maule, a MX-7-160 taildragger. I am currently insured with AVEMCO since they were the ONLY ones who would insure me. My premium is at $3700 with a $46,500 hull value.

My constant focus is to operate safely and NOT bend the airplane or hurt anyone. I am interested to know at what point I "might" be able to lower my insurance costs, AND what haapens when someone does make a claim?

If a claim is made what typically happens to the pilot regarding being able to maintane insurance for the airplane, or another airplane? Is the pilot "dropped" from the insurance company and then made to pay much higher premiums in the future?

I'm also interested in a scenario where another "named pilot" on a policy damages an airplane resulting in a claim. Is the owner of the airplane penalized in the future regarding insurance rates?

I am very interested in learning and thanks for your expertise and sharing!

Rob

Rob,
I'm no insurance guy, but are you instrument rated? I think that if you are not, it may be the best thing you could get, even for the insurance too.

i also use avemco. they lowered my rates after 50 hrs in make and model. and they will lower it again around 200 MM.
they have a long and elaborate formulah that includes total time, tailwheel time, and MM time to figure when you are ready for a reduction. i have it at home. i'll try to find it and post it for you.

Avemco will usually give you a break for doing any additional training including the wings program etc. They're expensive but you can usually work 'em down a bit by asking a lot of questions about how to save some money. At least that's the way they were a few years back...

Chris, good job on the C.S.A. magazine article Spring '07.
Any chance of a link for others to read or is it copywrite.

We are switching our website providers right now so we have not uploaded the magazines to the new servers yet. We have the entire magazine in PDF format though so I could send it to you if you want to post it. I can also send you just the tailwheel article in PDF as well if that is all you want...it will look just like the magazine with pics and all.

I will send a free copy of the Spring '07 edition to those who want it...just send me an email with your mailing address. chdavis@chappellsmith.com

I will be flying the Maule to Oshkosh as well as New Holstein this year and will have copies of the magazine for those that want them. Hope to see some of you there.

I have edited the article and taken a bit of the insurance angle out of it for consideration by AOPA, but I am afraid my contact has lost it in the shuffle. I plan to send it to Sport Pilot Magazine as well, but do not have a contact there.

I just uploaded the article in PDF format onto my personal server.

Here is a link to the file: www.twoplaneguys.com/pdf/tailwheel.pdf

Enjoy.

Yeah and that is compressed...the entire magazine is over 80mb. We split it into two files to send to the printer, but it has to be big to keep the picture quality.
