M5-210C power settings

Hi
I'm just getting my M5-210C going after sitting for 25 years because somebody crashed it ,from not putting gas in it. Anyhow I was wondering what you continental guys are running for cruse power settings. Also what is your emty weight?

Empty weight is 1490 lbs with original razorback and 3 layers of paint, 2 batteries. lots of radios. I cruise at 6500, 21.5 inches (wide open throttle), 2500 rpm, 8.5 gph, 50 degrees lean of peak, 130 mph, or 12.0 gph when 50 degrees rich of peak, about 140 mph. Lean of peak requires GAMIs on my plane. Leaning is with the JPI 700 w/fuel flow. Full power at take off burns about 19 gph.

While I am not an M-5, I imagine the operation is to be the same. Empty wt is 1320# cruise power is 24"/2400 rpm (Squared) I run 50-75 degrees rich of peak regardless of altitude. I have also found that my oil consumption goes from 1 qt/8 hrs @ 24/24 to a little higher at lower rpm. I have no idea why, might be the tapered rings.
This yeilds a true speed over the ground of 140-145 mph and the fuel burn at about 5-6000' for a long haul can actually be as low as 8.5-8.7gph. Short flights to and from the cabin (1.4) generally show a 9.4-9.7, I always plan with 10 gph.
It has a tendency to run very rich on the ground and if allowed to idle for any length of time at full rich, it will load up a plug. Lean it on the ground even at sea level. There is another Idiosyncrasy with this engine that will startle you. If, on short final you pull the power back all the way and then give it a short burst right at flair. The engine won't be there for a second or two. It takes a couple of seconds to "spool up" for lack of a better description. Always carry a little power (I use about 11-13" on final) until you are on the ground.
This engine developed a checkered reputation in the Cessna 337's, I'm sure due to the cooling (or lack thereof) for the rear engine. This engine is very subject to running hot or unevenly. Make shure your baffle seal is in good order. My next addition will be a 6 cyl engine monitor.
It's very well balanced engine/plane, light & dependable and once you get comfortable with it, I doubt you'll ever look elsewhere. Fly it a lot, that's the best thing you can do for it.

Thanks for the replies 9V and yellowmaule. Yellowmaule must be an M4? Are M4s useually that much lighter?

I have the 210 Continental on my M-4. My empty weight is also just over 1300. I use 25 squared for climb power after takeoff. I also plan 10 GPH. 24 squared works good for faster cruise. I'll use 22/2400 for more econ. I usually indicate between 120 and 125 MPH and about 9.5 on the burn. I don't aggressively lean, and I've never had a problem with plugs getting fouled, I tend to error on the side of cool cylinders. I think you will really get to like the motor. The empty weights between the M-4 and your M-5 sound about right.
