Before I bought my Maule a few years ago, I went through the NTSB database. What I recall, most Maule accidents were runway excursions on landing. Of the reports that specified, all the excursions were to the left.

Since 1982 (landing phase search was not available before 1982)

258 Maule landing accidents (includes all models)

255 VMC landing accidents (includes all models)
2 IFR landing accidents (includes all models)

1 missing ?

5 VMC fatal

1. water landing with wheels down
2. water landing with wheels retracted, no witnesses
3. 30knt winds 64hrs total time
4. beach landing, bystander killed
5. water landing, student pilot with passenger
unknown if fatalities were pilots or passengers in some cases

0 IFR fatal

1. road landing, ran off to the left (mountains)
2. ran off to right when trying to rush a turn-off

I know what Wup is talkin' about. While perusing thise vids, on the right, up popped some vid of a barefoot blond pilot of an Otter on floats in some tropical island operation.

She was almost supermodel style in apppearance, but without the vacant look that says all beauty no brains.

If only I were younger... And singler... And handsomer ....

Ok next fo I have that doesn't look like that is fired. This video has a couple of reasons why flying in to St marten is so tough. One must pay strict attention to obstacles so one pilot flys while the other monitors the beach.

there but for the grace of God, but methinks uncle Chris might spot a Darwin award or three in that list...
